The Province of Alberta announced their approval on October 8, 2014 of the replacement of the A.H. Dakin School in Edson in support of Grande Yellowhead's 3 Year Capital Plan. In early February, administration and representatives from Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure toured Evergreen School in Edson. Following this tour, administration recommended to the Board of Trustees that the modernization of Evergreen School also be included in the 3 Year Capital Plan which was then approved at the April 8, 2015 Public Board Meeting. Due to the projected cost to fully modernize the aging facility, the Province then announced on October 7, 2015, that the new replacement school for Dakin would be expanded to include Evergreen's student population, moving the project from a 200 student capacity facility to a single 450 permanent core school with a built out capacity of up to 500 students on the current A.H. Dakin site. A Design Build Committee was then established by the Superintendent of Schools to include representatives from many stakeholder groups to ensure that the new school would reftect the needs from both school communities: parent and staff representatives from both Dakin and Evergreen; both school administrators, central office administrators and both local School Board trustees from Edson. On December 16, 2015, the Board of Trustees were pleased to approve the final plans, in principle, for the new K to 5 replacement school in Edson.
