Jasper Jr. Sr.  High School Open House Results

A public information open house was held Monday, January 30th that provided residents a look at the Jasper Joint School Facility floor plans. The new combined facility of Jasper Junior/Senior High School and Ecole Desrochers is slated to be completed by June 2014.

The open house was hosted by Grande Yellowhead Public School Division in conjunction with Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord (CSCN) and attracted 40 members of the public along with a tremendous amount of discussion. Board Chair, John Stitzenberger, on behalf of both Grande Yellowhead and CSCN welcomed people to the open house at 7p.m. In his comments, he thanked the work of the Building Project committee to arrive at the drawings that were presented at the occasion.

A theme that was expressed throughout the evening was that there is a lot of excitement in Jasper about the new facility, the public is hearing a lot of good things regarding the project and that “this is the single biggest thing to happen in this community in a long time.”

Other comments included that the facility looks like it will fit into Jasper quite well and that the facility will provide a lot of opportunities for physical activity,

A question was raised about the need for a larger space for CTS programming at Jasper Junior/Senior High and one member of the public asked if there are enough parking spaces allotted.

Using the approved floor plan as the base for the project, staff and administration from both schools are making technical reviews to ensure that instructional spaces are appropriate for the type of programming required. Following those meetings, the next step is applying to Parks Canada for a development permit. Once the permit is issued, the plans will go to Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure so the tender documents can be developed and sent out for companies to apply.

  Jasper High School: Plans Approved

Following an extensive consultation process which involved a committee of students, parents, staff, administration and trustees, the Board of Trustees from both Grande Yellowhead Public School Division and Conseil scolaire Centre-Nord (CSCN) have approved the conceptual plans of the new Jasper Joint School Facility.

Approval of the drawings for the new Jasper Joint School Facility represents the layout and appearance of the facility, which conforms to Alberta Education and Parks Canada requirements and meets the project schedule set by Alberta Education and Alberta Infrastructure.

The facility’s interior and exterior includes a number of special features that enhance the learning environment while adding to the building’s environmental sustainability. You will find below conceptual drawings of the interior and exterior of the facility.
