Senator Simons Visits PCHS

Posted on:

Students in Mr. Sommerfeld's Social Studies 9 class at Parkland Composite High School in Edson enjoyed a virtual visit from Alberta Senator Paula Simons. Senator Simons spoke eloquently about her career in journalism, her perspectives on the role of the Senate and her experiences as a Senator representing Alberta. The Senator spoke at length about a number of matters she has worked on in the past, including amending Bill C-7, which amends the Criminal Code of Canada to allow assisted dying.

Students were captivated by the Senator's anecdotes and perspectives, and peppered her with many thoughtful and insightful questions about Canadian political life. The hour-long virtual visit was conducted via Google Meet, and was very insightful for the students in learning more about the Canadian government and its governors.
