Summer School 2022

Summer School 2022.

Program Information

Registration for Summer School courses for 2022 is now closed.

All summer school courses are offered virtually or in-person from July 5th to July 22nd. All classes will run from 8:30 am – 2:30 pm in-person at one of the high schools in GYPSD depending on demand OR online through Hapara. If there is a high demand in more than one community, other in-person options may become available.

Summer School is an intense format for studies in which all of the Alberta Education outcomes in the Program of Studies that are normally taught in a semester are taught in fewer hours. The general rule is that a week’s worth of material in a regular semester is covered every day in Summer School. The classes are taught by a teacher and will involve instruction, assessment and student work every day. These are NOT self-paced courses and attendance is required during the set class time. All assessments must be submitted by the due date and time.

Summer School is an opportunity for students to free up room in their timetables for other courses or to upgrade marks. Students will be asked for the course they desire at time of registration.

Information to register can be found here. A link for payment of applicable fees will be provided as soon as the registration form is completed. Registration is not complete until payment in full is received.

The deadline for registration is Monday, June 20, 2022.

Credit Course Fees and Refunds

A non-refundable registration fee of $50 is due at the time of registration. GYPSD Summer School reserves the right to cancel any class due to low enrollment or unexpected circumstances. A full refund will be issued if GYPSD Summer School cancels the class.

  1. Students cannot miss classes because of the intensity and pace of the course.
  2. Students can expect to be online, engaged in learning, and completing assessments for each day. There may also be homework to complete after school hours.
  3. Assessments must be completed and submitted on or before the due dates.
  4. Summer School is an optional program and passing grades are not guaranteed. The mark the student achieved in the course will be submitted to Alberta Education.
  5. Students must attend class every day.
  6. If a student misses two days of instruction during the Summer School session, they will be removed from the class.
  7. Pre-requisite course requirement: In consultation with Alberta Education and our Executive team here at GYPSD, if there is a pre-requisite course needed for the student’s summer class (ex. Science 10 to prepare for Biology 20), that pre-requisite must have been successfully completed by June 25, 2022.
