Grande Cache Community High School student, Allyson Busch is the recipient of the 2020 Queen
Elizabeth II Golden Jubilee Citizenship Medal which also comes with a $5,000 scholarship. This summer, she will be attending a ceremony to accept her medal from the Honourable Salma Lakhani, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta. These are some of the criteria that were used for recommending Allyson for this prestigious award.

  • Grade 12 - the Student Council President
  • Spent two years on the Superintendent’s Advisory Council
  • Organizes and participates in school events, taking an active, positive role
  • Often leads discussions and inquiry in the classroom
  • Good role model because of her strong character and values
  • Allyson was a member of the Grande Cache Junior Firefighter program. After two years of difficult training, Allyson recently passed her NFPA 1001 exams. She is now a qualified firefighter. She achieved this while still in Grade 12!
  • Allyson took her 1001 (firefighting) exams just days after returning from Mongolia where she spent two weeks on a medical internship. She travelled halfway around the world alone, to provide medical assistance in the ambulance, in the hospital, and at clinics.
  • As a member of the GCFD Junior program, Allyson participated in the Lethbridge Firefighter’s 911 Memorial Stair Climb. She climbed 110 floors in bunker gear to pay tribute to the firefighters who died on September 11, 2001. This was an excruciating task to complete.
  • She has provided instrumental assistance and leadership on all Fire Department charitable activities including Food Bank food drives, Candy Cane Check Stops, the PARTY Program, Fire Awareness presentations and barbeque and Muscular Dystrophy Boot Drives.
  • Since joining the MD of Greenview Fire Rescue Services (Station 33 – Grande Cache) just 11 months ago, Allyson has already responded to 120 calls. This includes structure fires, wildland and grass fires, motor vehicle collisions and medical co-response calls with EMS.

Allyson is also the recipient of The Premier’s Citizenship Award which she received in early February!
