“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” - Dr. Seuss

Mr. Trant’s Grade 4/5 class has been writing their own picture books to teach students in Kindergarten and Grade One about parts of speech as well as punctuation. This has also required them to learn how to write specifically for a specific audience. The students were also proud to visit their neighbouring school, Sheldon Coates Elementary, to visit Mrs. Harley and Mrs. Hammer’s classes where they read their books to other students and shared their 'expertise' on the creation process.

As part of the English Language Arts Program of Studies, students "will use many methods, such as computer programs, to create, organize and publish information. They will take responsibility for their role in a group and show appreciation for what others share." Literacy supports and initiatives continue to be a strong focus at all GYPSD schools.
