Niton's Youngest Learners Visit Firehall 8

Posted on:

On May 23, 2025, Niton Central’s youngest learners had the exciting opportunity to visit the newly opened Niton Station 8 Fire Hall in Yellowhead County. Students in junior kindergarten, kindergarten and Grade 1 were welcomed by members of the Yellowhead County fire team, Deputy Chief Plant, Captain Grant and Serena, who gave them a tour of the station, had the patience to answer questions, and shared important information about fire safety and emergency preparedness with students and staff.

The field trip aligned with the Social Studies exploration of "I Belong" (Kindergarten) and "My World: Home, School, and Community" (Grade 1), and Niton students are learning about the roles and responsibilities of community members including those who help keep us safe.

Highlights of this special field trip included trying on full firefighter gear and the chance to sit in the fire engine and - to the students’ absolute delight - use the fire hose to "fight fires" themselves.

We think that there may be a few future firefighters in Yellowhead County!
