Mountain View Hosts Kids' Conference

Posted on:

On May 9, 2025, during Education Week, over 450 students at Ecole Mountain View School (EMVS) in Hinton participated in their bi-annual Kids’ Conference. The purpose of Kids’ Conference is to create a meaningful day of hands-on learning where students can explore new interests, try out new skills, and engage in unique learning experiences beyond the regular curriculum. Sessions are designed to spark curiosity, build confidence, and allow students to discover hidden talents. The overarching theme is exploration, creativity, and student engagement through real-world learning opportunities. The school has proudly hosted this fantastic learning opportunity for their students for over 12 years.

Seventy sessions were planned for students in K to grade 3, and in grades 4 to 7. EMVS’ Student Council demonstrated their leadership skills throughout the day;  helping with various activities and assisting volunteers where needed. Over the years, presenters have included local artists, science educators, musicians, martial arts instructors, chefs, and environmental groups. These volunteers are invited for their expertise, their connection to student-friendly topics, the community, and their ability to provide fun, hands-on, skill-based learning activities that align with the school’s goal of broadening student experiences. This year offered a variety of hands-on sessions such as welding, potting plants, painting, photography, and outdoor safety/first aid. Over 70 volunteers engaged EMVS’ students with their expertise.

The bi-annual Kids’ Conference directly supports EMVS’ School Continuous Improvement Plan’s goals by

  • Fostering student engagement through experiential and interest-based learning. Many of our sessions tied in Math, Literacy and Science aspects
  • Promoting citizenship and community/parental involvement, &
  • Encouraging student voice and leadership through their Student Council’s involvement.
