GNS: Early Learning Screens for Literacy Success

Posted on:

Grande Yellowhead continues to provide professional development opportunities in the Science of Reading to ensure that staff are current with the tools and knowledge they need to support students' needs.

Over the past few weeks, Amy Corser, Inclusive Education - Teacher Consultant for the Division, along with and 12 Learning Support Teachers, Kindergarten and Grade One teachers completed training for the Reading Readiness Screening Tool (RRST) to learn more about phonological awareness and early
literacy interventions. The RRST provides teachers with an accessible and affordable universal screening tool that enables teachers to screen for phonological awareness weaknesses and other reading readiness skills, identify student needs, and inform instructional classroom programming.

Training was provided through the Learning Disabilities Association of Alberta and informed participants how to administer the screening tool to students.
