GNS: GYPSD Alumna Shares Career Passion with PGMS Students

Posted on:

Grande Yellowhead Schools are always excited when former GYPSD students come back to visit current students and speak of their educational journey to their current career passions.

The Outdoor Education classes at École Pine Grove Middle School (PGMS) had the pleasure to have Ms. Brittany Bush from Backwoods Resources Inc visit. Brittany went to École Westhaven, PGMS, and then graduated from Parkland Composite High School in 2014. She took two years of schooling at NAIT in the Forest Technology Program which focuses on hands-on learning in the outdoors. Upon graduation, she received a job at Arbormetrics Solutions where she got the opportunity to travel throughout the United States before joining Backroads where she has worked for the last three years as a Safety Coordinator/Crew Foreman and Quality Control.

She presented to the Grade 7 and 8 classes about her journey from being an Outdoor Education student to her Career in Forestry. Before she was in the NAIT program, during her Grade 11 summer she worked in the Junior Forest Rangers program with the province. In this program, you work away from the home the entire summer outdoors doing tree planting, forest clean up, and many other fantastic tasks. She showed students how a passion for the outdoors has translated to a fulfilling career. Brittany also shared with the students the post-education programs available in Alberta for Forestry. Thank You Ms. Bush for sharing some career opportunities with the PGMS students!
