GNS: PGMS Discovery Hour

Posted on:

Students in grade 7 and 8 recently participated in Discovery Hour at École Pine Grove Middle School in Edson. This initiative was in response to Assurance Survey results which indicated that students wished to have a voice in what they were learning at school. This created an opportunity for students to choose what they were passionate about and develop life-long skills throughout the creation of the projects. They worked on developing skills around research, presenting, visual arts, creating artifacts, and developing their passions.

On June 8th, the students attended the school's Learning Fair where they had the opportunity to present their passion projects to the community. Some of the project topics included trapping, sledding, How I Wrote a Book, History of Anime, Making a Dress, horses, electricity, Blue Hyssop tea, and Morse Code to name a few just a few! Judges went around to each student to learn about their projects and then scored them based on their presentation, visuals, research, and artifacts. The top four projects in each grade received a prize.

Teachers were thrilled to see their students presenting throughout the evening as they were able to teach others about their interests.
