GNS: Post-Secondary Planning

Posted on:

High school students across GYPSD are choosing courses that set up their successful transition to their next learning adventure while attaining their high school diploma.

Whether it is onto a post-secondary program in a polytechnical, college, or university institution, or onto the next phase in their apprenticeship journey, students in high school are supported to select courses that meet the Alberta diploma requirements AND meet the entry requirements for what they want to study next.

For example, a student who wants to enter a four-year Bachelor of Science undergraduate degree program needs English 30-1.  However, a student who plans to attend a two-year diploma program at NAIT for Petroleum Engineering Technology requires the highest grade possible in English 30-2 or 30-1.  Credits in either English 30-1 or 30-2 meets the Alberta High School Diploma.

High school staff work with students to encourage their next-step planning and ensure their course selection meets their diploma checklist and also aligns with their future post-secondary dreams and career goals.
