GNS: Substitute Teachers' Appreciation Week

Posted on:

March 13 to 17th  Substitute Teachers' Appreciation Week and GYPSD schools are showing their sincere appreciation for these valuable members of the GYPSD team.

Every day substitute teachers provide professional service in schools throughout Alberta. Substitute teachers carry the same daily responsibilities of instruction, management, and supervision of students that regular classroom teachers do. The substitute teacher, however, has the added challenge of not being able to work with students on a long-term basis while being responsible for ensuring that each day is used productively.

These valuable educators fill the shoes of the regular teacher... for part of a day or several weeks. Substitute teachers receive notice of an assignment opening sometimes hours before they are needed. Other times, substitutes fill in for a teacher when they are scheduled to be away. A substitute teacher often doesn’t know which subject they may be teaching from one week to the next! These flexible and resilient educators provide a bridge between full-time educators and their students. Focusing on the continued progress of a classroom’s education, these teachers play a vital role in maintaining high levels of education in our schools and we can't shout out loud enough our sincere appreciation for their efforts!

Thank you to all the substitute teachers who support students in their studies. Whether you teach online or in a classroom, we appreciate all you do!
