GTHS Students Explore Career Options at NAIT

Posted on:

Several Grand Trunk High School (GTHS) Grade 10 and Grade 11 students were invited to NAIT's first School of Energy and Natural Resources' Immersive Experience, providing a day-long exploration of various programs within the school. The experience is designed to give high school students a firsthand look at post-secondary education options within the energy and natural resources field.

GTHS students selected two sessions from a choice of nine career paths and got to participate in a showcase of the program, its career paths, and hands-on experience in these polytechnic pursuits: Forestry Management, Water & Wastewater Management, Laboratory & Biotechnology, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, Alternative Energy, Power Engineering, Environmental Monitoring & Assessment, and Conservation Biology.

The majority of students had recently finished a unit on Energy and Technology in Science 10, and this day aligned with a number of Science 10 content and concepts. Students remarked on both the valuable information, the eye-opening experiences, and the fun they had from this experience such as learning about possible career paths and post-secondary plans.
